Black Wedding Gown

When I got married, I knew that wearing a traditional white wedding gown was not what I wanted. As long as I can remember I always wanted to get married in black. It's odd, I know, but it suits me perfectly!

I fell in love with a gown that I saw on a vintage clothing website, but it was not my size. I decided that I wanted to wear this gown more than anything, so I chose to have it reproduced by a professional seamstress.

The vintage gown I found online was made of a black crepe-like fabric with a gathered waist at the side for a very classy look, accented with a pink silk rose. It also had a train in the back which was lined with contrasting bright pink satin.

My seamstress chose to make a few alterations to the original design. She made my train removable, so that the dress could later be worn for other formal events. She also added small spaghetti straps at my request.

I also chose to not have the silk flower, as that's not really my style. Besides those minor alterations, my dress was a perfect replica of the vintage dress I found online!

The best part was, the dress cost far less to have made from scratch than many of the traditional wedding dresses you'd buy off the rack. I'm very happy with the choice I made, even if it raises a few eyebrows when I explain I was married in a black dress.
