Eva Pilgrim Of Everyday Eva

Tell us about yourself and how you started blogging.

Eva Pilgrim : I'm a television journalist who is supposed to blog for work. ha! I didn't really want to at first... and I had no clue what to blog about. In talking with my coworkers we thought it was needed to have a how-to type blog for young women going into the professional world about what is really appropriate for the office (lots of interns came into work in completely inappropriate outfits)... and that's how the idea of posting my daily outfits started.

What is the philosophy behind Everyday Eva?

Eva Pilgrim : Young and broke: being fabulous on a budget. I wanted the blog to be for all young women starting out on their own... and all women for that matter... to see how to have fun, look good and live comfortably on a budget. It's a realistic approach to living. I'm a real girl with a real job that pays a real normal salary. I'm not a millionaire who can afford whatever she wants. I tell my readers what I really paid for things and where I really got them. From time to time I post about saving and budgeting and how I do it.

Does being a reporter at Fox59 Morning News help you in your blogging?

Eva Pilgrim : Its why I started blogging... haha! We have a newsroom full of well-dressed people, so there is a lot of inspiration around me.

Everyday Eva

Congratulation! You are in the top 5 readers’ favorites for Refinery29 Next Big Style Blogger search, tell us your feeling.

Eva Pilgrim : Shocked. I never considered the blog to be a "fashion" blog and I definitely don't consider myself a fashionista so I was shocked to see the blog take that role. Refinery 29 actually sent me an email prior to the search starting asking me to do it... or I'd never have entered the blog in the first place.

What do you think are the reasons that readers voted you to the top 5 favorites.

Eva Pilgrim : I think it helps that the blog is on my station's website ;) haha and there are thousands of people who watch our daily newscasts. It's part of why I feel so much pressure to be responsible with how I spend money. I want the things on the blog to be realistic for everyone. I think that's what's kept people coming back to read it.

Of your five labels: clothes, shoes, beauty, entertaining and home, which one would you spend most and why?

Eva Pilgrim : I wish it weren't true... but probably clothes. hahaha! It's so easy to get lured in. I really enjoy clothes so I try to budget myself to be able to go shopping... at least a little something every month. When I say little... some months its only $20. I'm trying really hard to build a bigger savings right now... so the shopping budget is being slashed.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Eva Pilgrim : I love walzing through Saks and Neiman's for ideas, but I spend my money at the discount stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I like buying trendy items at Forever 21 or Franchesca's. For work: Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, The Loft, Macy's and Dillards. I'm also a big online shopper... piperlime, overstock, shabby apple, asos, top shop, mod cloth, gilt, beyond the rack, bluefly. The thing with being a budget shopper is you have to look for bargains... so that means constantly keeping an eye on lots of different places! haha... or so I tell myself. I refuse to buy something that isn't on sale because I know it will eventually go on sale... or at least I hope. If nothing else... I feel like I get to shop a lot and enjoy clothes, even when I can't afford to buy anything.

What is your worthiest purchase to date?

Eva Pilgrim : my violin. It was a lot of money for me... and I was not only proud of myself for getting it, but also proud that it was a good investment. violins increase with time... where clothes go out of style.

What advise would you give to those young professionals making no money, but still want to be fashionable.

Eva Pilgrim : Spend your money on the essentials and go to the cheapy places for trendy things. Little things like accessories make a huge differences. Shop end of season sales for the best deals on things that will def be back next year. Most importantly, don't ever spend money you don't have. Saving and budgeting for what you want are such hard things to do... but soo worth it.  It may take you longer to get that designer bag that you're dying for, but it also won't cause you the stress of being in huge debt.

Anything you like to add to close this interview?

Eva Pilgrim : I think that is more than enough me talking about me... I'm sure you want to vomit by now!!!
