A hoodie dress is basically a dress with a hood. It was popular as an outfit for jogging or running but a lot of styles came out and it has been casually worn everywhere.

Hooded dress were worn as formal wear by the monks way back in the Middle Ages in addition to their usual robes. Later, the hood was popularized as sportswear in the 70's and those with criminal intent specially shoplifters, found it advantageous to conceal their faces and not to be easily recognized in CCTV cameras. It even became phenomenal when it appeared in Sylvester Stallone's movie "Rocky".

As fashion evolved from time to time, it became a statement in the academic world as well around 1990. It carried the logos of universities in the United States, specifically in California. Young boys and girls, students, joggers, skateboarders and surfers donned the hoodie.

It was at this time that some high profile designers like Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hillfiger incorporated it in their fashion collections and became a fashion statement. It is no longer limited to sports attire but they came up with different styles of hooded dresses.

Make it casual or dressy depending on the accessories you use. There are endless options with this type of clothing. Depending on how you wear it and the type of material would determine where you would wear it.

A little metallic hooded dress pair it with some shimmery stockings and a coordinating metallic heel will make a perfect outfit for a fancy dinner, a night out on the town or any other special occasion.

On the other hand if you have a sweat shirt hooded dress and throw on some leggings and tennis shoes, flats or flip flops and you would be all set for anything from a picnic to a walk on the beach.
