Mix and Match Like a Pro!

Do you have a closet full of clothing but don’t know what goes with what? It is easy to learn how to mix and match and still keep one’s sanity. The key to success is the foundation of the garment. Think if it as building a beautiful house, layer-by-layer. This is the starting point. Think simple. Think monotone.

Let’s begin with an outfit for a casual dinner date:

Choose between pants or a skirt and a simple, scoop-necked tee, your choice of long or short sleeves. The choice of a neutral color such as beige, black or white is perfect. These things can be dressed up or dressed down as desired.

Find a scarf that you like and learn fun ways to tie it around your neck or even use it as a belt. If the scarf is multi-colored, choose the color you like best and take it a step further to your choice of the next piece, say…a vest or socks or an embellishment in your hair. There are sweaters, vests, hats and jewelry that can be added in layers. Wear as much or as little as you wish to achieve the look that you want.

The same rules go for dressier occasions. Start simple and build on the foundation, only with the fancier garments, look for shiny fabrics as accents, silk and glittery fabrics. Sparkly broaches with clip on sparkles for the shoes. Pair up a small evening bag with your choice in scarves or shawls.
