Sometimes in life, you have to wear the leotard.

My husband is a supportive and encouraging guy-- normally. But, he couldn't avoid the “Fantasia” reference when he saw his 315lb wife buy a ballet dvd at the thrift store. (There is a very memorable scene with dancing hippos.) I will admit that I was very grateful that there was no one to seem me stumbling around my living room-- trying to do the NY ballet moves. I never quite made it. And, I did not lose any weight at all while I was using that video. But, that dvd got me the most comments along the lines of “are you doing something new to lose weight?”

I don't think it was the muscle toning or anything like that. I think, it was more about standing straight and losing that “sack of potatoes” way I had of sitting in a heap on the couch. Posture makes all the difference. It changes the clothes I bought as well. If you really stand and sit in a poised way, all those fashionable suits with the cuts that favor our body shape look much better.

I have lost my dvd since. But, I still do yoga. And, my skinny husband doesn't laugh-- since he tried to keep up with me during a 50 min work out. And, the posture thing really helps-- with image and self image. Whatever it is, people noticed a difference.
