Wedding Dress

My wedding took place in November of 1981. That was one of those years where the weather continued to be unseasonably warm well into November. With the help of my parents, the whole wedding had been flawlessly planned, and on the morning of November 14, 1981, looking out my bedroom window at the sun as it began to rise and warm the cool November morning, I realized that this day was going to be perfect.

I immediately began to gather together everything I would need to take with me to the church to get ready. I pulled out my wedding dress and as I looked at it, I realized how perfect it was. It was beautiful and simple, which made it, in my eyes, simply beautiful! I thought about how I had found it at the bridal shop, tried it on, realizing right away that it was the perfect dress for me.

To try to describe it does not do it justice. As wedding dresses go, I suppose it was nothing spectacular. But to me it was perfect. Long sheer sleeves covered my arms and a raised lace collar lightly framed the back of my neck. The neck of the dress was bordered with lace and scooped low in the front. And the back of the dress trailed beautifully along the floor.

I had decided that I would not be wearing high heels as I would be on my feet for hours and I really wanted to be comfortable. I simply went to a shoe store and found the most comfortable white sandals I could find. My veil was a long, simple, sheer veil, bordered by lace, and attached to a lace headpiece.

The wedding was beautiful and perfect. The day ended with a wonderful reception at the restaurant where I had met this man who was now my husband. During the reception, my new spouse sang Color My World as a special song for me. It was a beautiful ceremony in a beautiful wedding dress, topped off by a beautiful reception. What more could I have possibly asked for?
